Assyrian Soldier Relief This ancient relief is part of a large limestone block that adorned the south-western palace of Ashurbanipal at Nineveh. It reveals Assyria's victorious troops carrying away booty and the soldiers of Ashurbanipal leading away the cities prisoners into captivity. A real life illustration of the Biblical text that reads: "In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor [by] the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes." - 2 Kings 17:6 |
